The Vassar Haiti Project is committed to building, staffing, and supplying a new medical clinic in Fiervil, a town located at the base of the mountain where Chermaitre sits. Since mid-2014, the clinic has made professional medical attention accessible to residents of Chermaitre and surrounding villages for the first time.
Through a series of art sales, VHP raised sufficient funds to construct the clinic. On the March 2013 trip, the fruits of our labor became tangible upon visiting the long-awaited clinic building. VHP has since hired a Haitian doctor to see patients during twice-monthly clinic days, and a full-time Haitian nurse to staff the clinic frequently and visit the school in Chermaitre.
