Sept. 19 - Sept. 27

We invite you to the 26th annual Art Sale and Auction at Vassar College, featuring an online auction and in person sale. The event will showcase the beauty and joy of Haitian culture by featuring hundreds of works of art and handcrafts from this country of great artisans! The auction will feature nearly 40 paintings and handcrafts, preceding the actual art sale at Vassar College. Original art from scores of Haitian artists will be available for sale in the Multi-purpose room on the second floor of the College Center.

Works encompass paintings, iron sculptures, paper mache, wood and metal handcrafts and more — displaying the country's diverse and talented artistic voices. Sales directly support the livelihoods of hundreds of local artists, and proceeds also benefit numerous programs in Chermaitre — a mountain village in Haiti. This sales’ proceeds will go to our education initiative for 200 primary school children, secondary school and adult education programs. Please come and support sustainable development initiatives in Haiti, while simultaneously connecting with the vibrant, joyous narrative expressed through the art.

Insider’s Perspective: “What’s Happening in Haiti”

Every year since its founding in 2001, The Haiti Project (THP) has hosted an art sale and auction to support education accessibility in northwest Haiti. All the proceeds from this sale and auction, to take place during Vassar College’s Families’ Weekend, will fund our Education Initiative in Chermaitre, a rural village in northwest Haiti.

In Chermaitre, we partner with the locals to continually fund a primary school, secondary school, a community center/church building, and a clinic which serves thousands of patients from the surrounding 47 villages each year.

The primary school, L’ecole St. Paul, continues to run, offering breakfast and lunch for the children for the past 25 years! We offer schooling from nursery through sixth grade where some of the students go on to the secondary school program.

An adult education program was implemented in 2021 as a powerful engine for the women’s self-empowerment through their acquisition of literacy and business skills. Recently, it has been on pause, but we will resurrect it this year with some funding received recently from a donor.

Our newest Trade School Scholarship program launched last year, and we have received funds for 47 scholarships! This program gives the young people a new possibility for their lives with the end result of a career in a trade.
