Project: Tree planting, Phase II
Objective: To conserve soil and meet food, fuel, and income needs in Chermaitre
Cost: $36,700
Status: Ongoing, funding needed

Phase II of the Chermaitre Reforestation Initiative is to plant 20,000 trees in Chermaitre. These trees will be planted on the community reforestation plot and distributed to individual families. The plantings will support the life science lessons of students. Funding will be used to buy trees, pay salaries of an agriculturalist and labor teams, and to bring an agronomist to visit Chermaitre and give community lessons on sustainable tree planting and harvesting.

Reforestation provides a sustainable source of food and income in Haiti, which is 98% deforested. The village aims to plant a total of 100,000 fruit and lumber trees, including apricot, coconut, grapefruit, mango, citron, oak, cedar, and mahogany.

Funding will be used to buy trees, pay salaries of an agriculturalist and labor teams, and to bring an agronomist to visit Chermaitre and give community lessons on sustainable tree planting and harvesting.
